Hannah Huntley has a degree in Recreation Administration, Business Administration and a minor in Peace and Conflict resolution from Humboldt State University in Northern California. In her years at Humboldt she spent time in the Redwoods, on the ocean and hiking the rivers where her skills as an outdoor educator and explorer developed. After receiving her degree, she spent over two years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Malawi, Africa. There she worked as a Community Health Adviser, led nutrition workshops for mothers and their malnourished children, educated communities on HIV/AIDS and challenged the stigmas that People Living with Aids deal with on a daily basis. She also helped create a cohesive sign language with the local deaf community combining Chichewa, local village sign and American Sign Language. After this incredibly humbling and gratifying experience, she moved to San Francisco where she began a master’s program in EcoTourism. With a year of coursework under her belt she took advantage of an opportunity to be a cook and deckhand onboard Sailboat 2041 with the ‘Voyage for Cleaner Energy.’ Promoting environmental awareness and sustainability along the way, she sailed from Seattle via the Panama Canal to Martha’s Vineyard. With her master’s degree on hold, she is helping this seed of an idea take root and bloom into The Extra Mile Adventure.
